UM bike models have been discontinued in India
UM is an American two-wheeler manufacturing company which was established in the early 2000s by Octavio Villegas Llano. Based in Miami, Florida the new Um bike models are inspired by the perilous living conditions of Latin Americans in the mid-20th Century. Strength and courage form the basis of the brand similar to Royal Enfield’s “Made like a gun” philosophy. Mr Llano wanted to create and offer transport products to the masses thereby providing them to achieve comfort at a low price. Majority of the Latin America belongs to the mid-income population, and that is what gave rise to UM.
The philosophy of the brand is to provide affordable bike models without sacrificing the performance and technology. UM’s entry into the Indian market can be seen to come of the same motive. Even in India, the majority of the bike buyers belong to the mid-income section. However, the only difference here is there is much competition in that segment with uber-popular Royal Enfield and Bajaj Avenger present in the segment. UM entered India through a partnership with Lohia group and has invested around INR 100 crore in India. The manufacturing of the models takes place at Lohia Auto’s Kashipur plant in Uttarakhand.
Currently, UM’s line-up for India includes four cruising motorcycles – Renegade Sport S, Renegade Commando, Renegade Mojave and Renegade Classic. 280cc engine powers all the four cruisers. There is not a huge difference between the prices of these models. The pricing philosophy resembles in Royal Enfield. The cheapest UM bikes in India include Sports S and Commando which are priced at INR 2 lakhs. The higher version is the slightly modified version of the Sport S which is the entry-level model. Some of the key features that Um bikes in India have are a USB charging port, blind spot mirrors, service alert system, anti-flat system and 360-degree LED light system. All these features make the bike a great value for money proposition.
It might be that you have never heard of this manufacturer. So, let us shed light on three of the key models and look at the specifications of these variants. For this, we are considering UM bike models – entry-level Renegade Sports S, Renegade Commando and flagship model Renegade Classic.
